Alesso and Katy Perry jump from No. 17 to No. 6 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs multi-meter chart (dated Jan. 15) with “When I’m Gone.” The collaboration was released on December 29 and debuted after only two days of availability. It reached the top 10 after its first full tracking week (December 31-January 6).
“Gone” garnered 3.1 million streams in the US and 839,000 radio audience and sold 6,000 downloads in its first full picture, according to MRC Data. With these numbers, the collaboration debuts in the Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs chart (#6) and improves in Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales (4-2).
The track benefits from Perry’s live performance of the song during CNN’s New Year’s Eve broadcast and further exposure in the future through its first official video on the halftime show. ESPN during the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship game on Jan. 10.
Alesso adds his fifth top 10 Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, among 26 appearances. The DJ reached second place twice, with “Heroes (We Could Be)”, with Tove Lo (2015) and “Let Me Go”, with Hailee Steinfeld and with Florida Georgia Line and Watt (2018).
Perry lands his fourth top 10 ranking in as many visits. She has a No. 1, as featured (along with Pharrell Williams and Big Sean) on Calvin Harris’ three-week lead “Feels” in 2017.
“Disco” Action: IAmChino and Pitbull debut at No. 29 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs with “Discoteca.” The first entry for IAmChino was No. 15 for Pitbull, who also ranked at No. 8 (after reaching No. 7) with “I Feel Good”, featuring Anthony Watts and DJWS.
“Discoteca,” which racked up 512,000 US streams in the tracking week, revisits the tune of ATC’s “Around the World (La La La La La)” with a healthy dose of Spanish vocals. ATC’s version reached #28 on the Hot 100 in 2001; a remake credited to R3HAB and A Touch of Class [aka, ATC] reached No. 13 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay and No. 20 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs in 2019.
Moving Corry and Mabel: Speaking of the Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart, Joel Corry and Mabel reached a new high with “I Wish” (11-6). Corry claims her sixth top 10 and Mabel earns her first. Corry tallied three No. 1s: “Head & Heart,” featuring MNEK (nine weeks at No. 1, Aug-October 2020); “Bed”, with RAYE and David Guetta (three, April-May 2021); and “Out Out”, featuring Jax Jones, Charli XCX and Saweetie (two, October 2021).
“Wish” ranks primarily on core dance game strength, including Music Choice’s Dance/EDM Channel, SiriusXM’s Diplo’s Revolution, and iHeartRadio’s Evolution Network. (The Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart measures radio airplay on a select group of full-time dance stations, as well as plays during mixed shows on nearly 80 of the top 40 formatted journalists.)
