Big Hit Music Announces BTS’s Jimin Is Currently Recovering From Appendicitis And COVID-19 Surgery


On January 31, Big Hit Music shared an announcement regarding BTS’s Jimin in a Weverse post. In Weverse’s announcement, BTS’s label shared that Jimin recently underwent surgery for appendicitis and also tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19).

BTS’s Jimin was diagnosed with appendicitis and COVID-19

Big Hit Music released Jimin’s health announcement on January 31. In the Weverse post, the company shared that Jimin went to the hospital after experiencing “sudden abdominal pain” and “a mild sore throat” on January 30.

The beginning of the announcement reads as follows:



We would like to provide you with the following information regarding the current health status of BTS member Jimin.

Jimin felt sudden abdominal pain accompanied by a mild sore throat on January 30 in the afternoon. He went to a hospital emergency room for a thorough examination and also took a PCR test. Jimin was diagnosed with acute appendicitis and tested positive for COVID-19. He underwent surgery on the advice of a doctor early in the morning of Monday, January 31.

Jimin’s surgery was successful and he is recovering

The second half of Big Hit Music’s announcement lets fans know that Jimin is currently recovering and that his appendicitis surgery was “successful.” The label also confirmed that Jimin was not around Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, V, or Jungkook when he was infectious.

“According to medical staff, the operation was successful and Jimin is currently recovering from his surgery. He will receive a few days of hospital treatment for COVID-19 in conjunction with post-operative care. He is currently suffering from a mild sore throat but is recovering quickly and had no contact with the other members during the contagious phase,” Big Hit Music wrote in the Weverse post.

The label concluded the announcement with, “The company places the health of the artists at the top of our priorities and we will do everything we can to help Jimin recover quickly. We will also cooperate diligently with requests and directives from health authorities. Thank you.”

After Big Hit Music was posted on Weverse, ARMY was quick to share his concern for Jimin and wish the BTS singer well on social media.

“My heart completely sank when I received this notification, positive for Covid AND the health status update. It freaked me out,” wrote one Reddit user. “Hoping he recovers quickly!” I don’t know what the restrictions are in Korea for people with HIV, but I hope he will soon be surrounded by his loved ones!

“Poor Jimin for having a double whammy from both Covid and appendicitis! It’s really tough and I’m glad he sought treatment quickly. To think they could have been in the US right now for the Grammys…I’m glad they’re in Korea cause there’s nothing worse than getting sick in another country…” wrote one fan on Reddit.

“What a way to start the year. Covid is bad enough but having appendicitis on top of that is just terrible. Hope his recovery is going well,” one fan wrote on Reddit.
