[Today’s K-pop] BTS’s ‘Butter’ Music Video Records 800 Million Views

The music video for BTS’s “Butter” reached 800 million views on YouTube on Thursday, record label Big Hit Music announced Friday.

The video is the group’s eighth to reach the milestone, following those for “DNA”, “Boy With Luv (Feat. Halsey)”, “Dynamite”, “MIC Drop Remix”, “Fake Love”, “Idol” and ” Blood sweat tears.”

“Butter” was released in May 2021 and the dance pop track landed at the top of Billboard’s Hot 100 and held its spot for seven straight weeks. In total, he was No. 1 in the rankings for 10 weeks, a record in 2021.

The music video also holds a string of records, attracting over 3.9 million concurrent viewers at the time of its release and racking up 108.2 million views on YouTube within 24 hours. The latter earned the septet a Guinness World Record.

BTS has temporarily suspended full group activities but will hold a special free concert in Busan to promote Busan World Expo 2030 on October 15.

Blackpink’s Dance Video Surpasses 20 Million Views In One Day

Blackpink’s “Pink Venom” performance video hit 20 million views in 24 hours on YouTube, according to record label YG Entertainment on Friday.

The figure surpasses the record for her dance video set “How You Like That”, amassing 18.8 million in 24 hours after its release. This video now has over 1.2 billion views on the platform.

The quartet has 33 videos with over 100 million views.

“Pink Venom” is a pre-release from the band’s second full-length album “Born Pink.” The song was released on August 19 and topped iTunes’ Top Songs chart in 75 regions. It was No. 1 on Spotify’s Global Top Songs chart for three consecutive days, a first for a K-pop group. The LP is due out on September 16.

Meanwhile, tickets for its two-day concerts in Seoul in October became available for purchase on Friday, starting with members of the band’s official fan club.

BTOB’s Lee Changsub will release his second solo single on September 6, agency Cube Entertainment announced on Friday.

The single “reissue #001 Surrender” is his first solo work since his debut EP “Mark” released in 2018. Lee participated in writing the lyrics for all tracks on the EP.

Separately, the six-member act marked the tenth anniversary of their debut with a third studio album “Be Together” in February. He also held a three-day concert in Seoul the following month. Bandmate Lee Minhyuk released his second solo album and held a solo concert last month.

Weki Meki’s Choi Yoojung to release solo single

Girl group Weki Meki’s Choi Yoojung will release her first single on September 14, the Fantagio agency announced on Friday.

The company uploaded a teaser poster that showed her running through a green field dotted with sunflowers, after which the single was titled.

She debuted as a rapper and lead dancer in the eight-member group in 2017. The performer has appeared on a series of variety shows and also tried to branch out into acting, having been cast in two web dramas.

In the meantime, Weki Meki launched a reality show, dubbed “Let’s Go We & Me,” earlier this month, in time for the fifth anniversary of the group’s debut. Her most recent release was her fifth EP “I Am Me”. from November 2021.
